Geographical Boundaries of Market Updates Reported by Area

Posted on January 2, 2008
One of our readers asked what the geographical boundaries were of the market updates that we report on.
This is a very good question because it is generally proprietary to Realtors using the MLS.  As a past chair of the MLS Committee, I had often requested that we change the areas to something understandable to the consumer, like a zip code.  That has been done, however, zip codes are really too small to determine the entire economic picture of a market area.
The MLS areas have withstood the test of time, although not well known to the public.  In response to this, below is a map of MLS areas.  Each area on the map is a different color from those surrounding it and each area has a number associated with it.

The following list contains areas that we report on monthly through this blog.  Each area listed below has a number associated with it. Locate the number associated with the market area on the map and that is the geographical boundary for the area market update. For a larger view of the map, click the hyperlink below the map and a larger map will appear for you.
